Get Started with Lasco Foods’ Custom Program

For a production run of dry blends, our minimums are 20,000 pounds, and for liquids it is 2,400 gallons. To convert to case equivalents, divide the quantity (pounds by 16 for weight ounces, gallons by 128 for fluid ounces) and then multiply the number of internal packages. Typically, Lasco will package anywhere from 6 to 24 bags per case or 6 to 12 bottles per case. Cases also tend to weigh 38 pounds or less for regulatory compliance. Lasco’s internal capabilities for packaging and production will also potentially limit or exclude the production of certain items. For example: a 24-oz bag of dry powder product in a 12-pack case would require a minimum of 1,000 cases.

The time to production can be anywhere from 12 weeks to 6 months depending on the complexity of the item and our current production schedule. In a contract manufacturing situation, we ask our partners to purchase the entire run before the time of production. (If the quantity is not too great, then we will warehouse and ship on an as-needed basis.)

Based upon your recipe, it may require substitution and sourcing of ingredients and significant development and lab time by the R&D department.

That said, we would require a deposit of $25,000 in most cases to begin development of your item. These funds would be applied at an agreed upon rate to the time spent in development. All funds could then be applied towards the cost of the finished product, also at an agreed upon rate.

The Custom Food Development Process

  • Step 1: Initial Meeting
    • We discuss your product ideas, target customers and estimated volume. Minimums are achievable and vary by item.
  • Step 2: Recipe Formulation
    • After signing an NDA, you provide your recipe/formula and a sample for lab analysis. We then create a sample for your approval, including pricing.
  • Step 3: Packaging, Labeling & Shipping
    • Once approved, we offer packaging options, develop labeling and create a test batch to ensure consistency. Your product is then labeled, packed and shipped with UPC codes as needed.
